Tree trimming

The other night I was over at my mom's house, and just as I was leaving she handed me a small bag of Christmas ornaments from her tree, for my tree. My mom's tree has always been huge and decorated with all sorts of great little things, and every year or so she gives me and my sisters and brother some ornaments, as she has plenty to spare. I couldn't believe I'd scored some of the felt, button-eyed fish I've always loved:

She made them herself. (Look how the yellow fish has a sequin AND a button for an eye. And the orange one has fins on both sides! Damn.) And then I noticed this in my bag:

"I gave you the little baby!" she said. "Isn't it cute?"

I guess my mom is trying to give me some sort of nudge? Like, maybe if I see a little baby in a wicker carriage hanging from my Christmas tree every day I'll suddenly want to have one?

Hmmm.

I don't know what I'm going to do with the baby. It is awfully cute, in its grubby sweater and blue booties.

But I think I have a new place to put my Homies guy.

Doesn't he look comfortable?

And now, doesn't he look like he was just eaten by an alligator?

Whoa sister...that is one scary looking baby. I of course prefer the alligator - did someone you know knit it? or is it crocheted? It is quite nice and cute.
And your blog totally rocks! But wait, where is my cool birthday card, huh? My birthday was November 10th, and my daughter's was November 12th and we are still waiting....and waiting...and waiting.

oh my goodness, only a lipslewy nutty knitter would wonder about that little gator and its homemade history. Well I'll tell ya: it's a finger puppet! Itty bitty! And no, it was a gift, but not the "here, I made ya this," kind. Factory made, I believe. Great to imagine all those little alligator finger puppets coming down the assembly line. As for making you and that heartbreaker kid of yours bday cards...you mean you never received them?! haw haw haw

so funny how you put the things in the cradle
somehow feels like "oh, joce you are in trouble....you did something bad" to take the baby out!!
funny
Henry picked out this little baby in a walnut shell ornament at a christmas fair this season and I bought it even though it was expensive because it reminded me of this ornament!!!
something weird was up mom giving you the two that were so on my mind this year
I think they are just the best of her whole crazy crop of ornaments and thats why we love them all so
and you are such a sweetie especially this year you so totally deserve them!
